Meet Rafael

What’s your role here at CPW Dentistry, and what does a typical day look like for you?
My name is Rafael, and I’m one of the assistants at CPW Dentistry. My typical day starts with a thorough conversation with our doctors about the schedule to ensure we’re providing the highest level of care possible. Throughout the day, I will meet our patients and accommodate them. As an assistant, I’m present in the room to serve patients to ensure they’re comfortable, ready for the treatment, and have all their questions answered. I also prepare the exam/treatment rooms before the patient comes in so we run on schedule and accommodate people right on time. The beauty of working at CPW Dentistry is that I work alongside hygienists throughout the day, and we help each other whenever we can.

What do you like most about working here?
One of my favorite things that Dr. Lhota, Tatiana, and Cailin, provide is a lot of training for personal and professional growth. We read books and do extra training to grow as a practice.

How do you want people to feel when they walk into the office?
As a practice, we know that dental anxiety is real and can be very exhausting. Our number one priority is our patients’ comfort, which includes giving them all the accommodations we can (ex, stress balls, blankets, numbing gel, etc.), and, most importantly, space and time to prepare for the procedure. Our providers are there for our patients and will give breaks to ensure people are comfortable.

What are you passionate about?
I am overall passionate about dentistry! Currently, I’m a pre-dental student working towards my applications to get into the dental school of my choice. Being an assistant gives me a completely different perspective of the dental industry. The experience I am getting now will be a must when I become a doctor.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?
Dental assisting positions require a significant amount of training. I’m very grateful for Dr. Lhota, Tatiana, and Cailin for allowing the top assistants in our practice to help train me. All of our assistants contributed to my knowledge of dental assisting. That includes procedures, sterilization, and, most importantly, patient care. This invaluable knowledge will help me succeed in the future. Training doesn’t end here. We strive for excellence in our practice. I still ask questions and get tips from our most experienced assistants!

Are you a dog person or a cat person?
I never used to be an animal person because my family never had animals at home. At the beginning of the pandemic, we decided to get a cat, which was the best decision ever. We got a Scottish Fold cat by the name of Leo. He is the sweetest cat I have ever seen. Very cute and very adorable. My mom became obsessed with him!
