Every month we feature behind-the-scenes interviews with the individuals who, together, make CPW Dentistry the special place that it is. This month, we’re featuring Anel.
What’s your role here at CPW Dentistry and what does a typical day look like for you?
I am a Dental Assistant here at CPW as well as one of two Dental Assistant Team Leaders. Typically, I spend the day making sure things run smoothly for my whole team and always being there to support them when they need me most. Keeping my patients as comfortable as possible during their time with us always a high priority. I love meeting new patients every day and building a relationship with them. I have the opportunity to meet some fascinating people! As an Assistant, I take pride in what I do day to day.
Why do you love working at CPW Dentistry?
I love working at CPW because of the people I work with! It’s not just a job to me. I’ve been working here almost seven years now, and if it weren’t for the close friendships I’ve made here, I couldn’t have possibly grown as much as I have with CPW. For that, I’m always grateful.
What makes you feel accomplished and why?
I feel the most accomplished when a patient who has a major dental phobia and comes in to see us, and we just turn their whole life around with the experience we provide. They leave the office so much happier than when they came in. The most rewarding part of my role is to see how grateful they are when they complete all of their treatment.
What makes you wildly happy and why?
Honestly, getting away from NYC and being on a beach somewhere makes me insanely happy. Whether I’m alone or in great company, it just feels amazing to get away for a while and reset your mind body and soul.
Where did you grow up and what was it like there?
I grew up in Bushwick, pre-gentrification. It was a dangerous place to live back in the 80s and 90s but my most of my family and friends lived minutes from me, and most still do. Now it’s almost unrecognizable with all the new bars and restaurants everywhere. Old factories where my mom used to work have been turned into lofts or warehouses for parties. I still love my neighborhood despite all the changes, because growing up there helped make me who I am today, and I wouldn’t change that for anything. I currently live in my old childhood apartment. I was fortunate that my god-family still owned the building my mom moved into when she came to this country, so I had dibs on my mom’s old apartment when it was remodeled. I can honestly say that’s my home and always will be.
What’s your go-to Karaoke song and why?
I could fall in love by Selena. In case no one knew, Selena is my idol!!! She was amazing inside and out. I wish she would’ve gotten more time to share that with the world. Some people are meant just to come through and leave a footprint that will never go away, and she did that for her fans.
